As promised, here's an in-between post about a dream I awakened myself from recently.
I walk up the stairway in an apartment building. I live in this apartment in the city, what city I don't know. My apartment is on the second floor. I don't live alone but I'm not sure who else lives here.
The darkness outside permeates the space inside and the air holds fear. The lighting feels dreary and quiet. The worn carpet on the stairs looks dark red with a gold pattern of leaves beneath my bare feet. A white bedroom door stands open, right at the top of the stairs. The apartment looks small and a bit shabby in my peripheral vision but I can't see anything specific. I look inside my room to the window on the opposite wall as I reach the doorway. I see the window open several inches. I know it was closed. It's winter and the apartment is usually cold so I never open my window in the winter.
I suck in a sharp breath and and say in a raised voice, "Hey! What's going on in here!"
I see two hands withdraw back through the window and my blood pounds in my head. "Jake!" I turn and yell down the stairs. My one hundred pound black dog runs up to me and I point, sending him to the window. Jake edges slowly around the full sized bed, adorned with a simple white bedspread. He growls. The window slams closed.
Anyone care to take a stab at the meaning of this dream?
