In my little fantasy, the Public Relations and Promotions fairies are in charge of selling my book. They wear trendy costumes--no capes here. But more importantly, they stock my novel, Leaning, onto the book shelves of every book store in the United States. Yep, I did say fantasy.
I know, I know. I should have completed this sooner. Many of my friends earned the right to say I told you so on this one. It turns out, self promotion ain't my specialty and my response is avoidance. Maybe if I find something else to do, it will all go away--or better yet, the public relations and promotions fairies will visit and my book will become an overnight best seller even though no one knows about it. Right.
With help, I finally wrote a press release and a description I like. (Click here to read the new version of the description.) I'm the first to admit this isn't my forte. For some reason I can write an 86,000 word novel with plots and sub plots, character development, and even infuse some symbolism but I can't write a simple description or anything remotely related to promotion. Go figure. It's taken me weeks to get this done, but its finished and I'm sending it out this week.
If anyone out there knows of a publication I should send this to, please comment button above, facebook me, or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org! I would also love the names of some book stores in your area since I plan to send information to them too. Help me out here folks. I know you are shocked but it turns out there are no PR fairies and I'm in charge here. GASP. GAG.
